David Game College Overview
David Game College is one of London's most established and popular private 6th form colleges. Located in the heart of the city, it specialises in helping students get into their university of choice. It is popular with both domestic and international students, and offers brand new boarding facilities right next to the college.
What is David Game College like?
The College moved to its current premises in 2017, having outgrown the previous site in Notting Hill Gate. It now resides in a more spacious and well-configured ex-university teaching building just a short walk from Fenchurch Street Station and Aldgate underground.
The college has retained its unique charm and independent character. Unlike some 6th form colleges, it feels more organic and down to earth than shiny or corporate.
Whilst it now enrols students from age 13+, the majority of its previous good work has been with older students, particularly 6th formers looking for an extra boost before heading to university. As a result, teachers are all subject specialists, there’s no uniform, and exam technique and preparation is a key focus. Careers and university advice are also priorities, and the college is very progressive in its approach to monitoring and supprting its students’ mental health and well being.
Is David Game College a good school?
David Game College is non-selective, which means it enrols students of all abilities. As a result, its average exam results are never top of the pile, but it’s 2019 value-added A-level score of 0.25, means that its students achieved a quarter of a grade higher than standard.
The College is one of the leaders for A-level retakes, and would normally expect its A-level retake students to improve their result by two grades.
A standard day in David Game College feels busy, energetic, and diverse – much like London itself.
DGC’s latest Ofsted report from February 2020 rated the school as Outstanding.
What is boarding like at David Game College?
The College only opened its boarding premises in 2022 and, somehow, it managed to acquire space in a brand new building right next door.
This is modern, urban student accommodation. Genders and age groups are safely segregated with restricted access to particular floors and doors. Rooms are mostly single ensuite, with ample study and storage space.
There are shared kitchens and common rooms with views across the city.
What curriculum does David Game College offer?
The college’s greatest strength is arguably the breadth of curriculum and subjects it can offer.
The staple is the English curriculum of GCSEs and A-levels, and both of these can also be studied as one year programmes – usually for students who need to retake or switch subjects.
David Game College was also a pioneer of University Foundation Programmes. Most other providers only offer these programmes to international students, but DGC can also offer them to British students – providing they have the appropriate level of previous study. The David Game UFPs focus on a specific subject area (Business, Engineering, Architecture, Pharmacy, Medicine, Law) and allow students to progress to 90+ UK universities as well as unis in the US, Canada, and Australia.
You can find more information on Foundation Programmes in the Top School Guide curriculum guide.
What are the fees for David Game College?
Tuition fees and boarding fees are charged separately. DGC also differentiates fees for British/EEA students and non-EEA students.
Domestic student day fees for 2 years of A-levels (3 subjects) are around £25k p/a, which is on the cheaper side of London 6th form day fees.
Boarding fees are an additional £21k – £28k p/a, depending on the type of boarding you choose.
